MASCARADE
Mascarade is an innovative European initiative, co-funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union, exploring the potential of theatre and masks as tools to promote social inclusion, enhance civic engagement, and encourage reflection on European identities. The project targets young people as well as professionals and organizations working in the fields of culture, education, and social services.
Project Objectives
-
Social Inclusion and Self-Esteem: Develop an artistic methodology to help young people explore their identities, break free from societal norms, and build self-confidence.
-
European Citizenship: Foster collective reflection on European identities using masks as a tool for creation, expression, and action.
-
Local and European Cooperation: Promote dialogue and partnerships between cultural, educational, and social organizations to improve the quality and impact of their initiatives.
Expected Outcomes
Following an in-depth research phase on European identities, the project partners will implement and test an innovative methodology with youth groups in diverse local contexts. The experiences will be documented and disseminated through:
-
Video tutorials to equip professionals with educational tools.
-
An interactive game book to deepen understanding of identities.
-
A podcast series and a website to share results and insights with a broad audience.
Mascarade uses art to serve society by transforming masks into a powerful metaphor for otherness, freedom, and dialogue, contributing to a more inclusive, participatory, and united Europe.
The project began in March 2025 and ended in May 2027.
Four European artistic organizations are part of this Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership: ALTER EGO (X), France, Sutta Scupa, Sicily, Italy, Teatras Menas, Lithuania, Myth Loft, Greece
